Along with my parents we drove to Vancouver Island, BC, Canada to ride the Galloping Goose rail-to-trail. On the way up we rode the Route of the Hiawatha with Dad who rented a bike. On the way back we rode the Olympic Discovery Trail and the Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes. My parents shuttled our vehicle for us on these rides so we could ride one way.

Rendezvous Trails - West Yellowstone, Montana. The night prior to this ride we stayed in West Yellowstone. These were actually cross country ski trails recommended to us by the local bike shop. We rode these trails for about half the day before moving on to drive around Yellowstone park. Rendezvous Trails Photos.

Clark Fork River Trail - St Regis, Montana. We drove to St Regis and this trail from where we were staying in Wallace Idaho. This was a single track "out and back" that totaled about 20 miles in length. It was a difficult but rewarding ride that went up the mountain, dipped down to the river, into the forest and out into clearings... several times. I went "over the bars" a couple of times. Route of the Hiawatha - Wallace, Idaho. This rail-to-trail is 16 miles in length, goes through 8 tunnels (you definitely need a headlight) and over 7 trestles. The longest tunnel took us under the Bitterroot mountains and to Montana on the other side. We rode up and back. We stayed at the Best Western in Wallace. Route of the Hiawatha website.
