Yesterday for the 4th year I along with our club participated in the big city's annual St Patrick's parade. I rode the bronco bike as I always do. This year for the first time I handed out candy which was tricky on this bike. Afterwords we ride down to a favorite pub for the after parade party. I have a different bike stashed at the end of the parade route for the ride to the pub.
Photos and a video here.
Nova in her green at dinner after the party. She doesn't ride in the parade yet reaps the benefits of the post parade party and ride.
Yesterday we were supposed to ride in 2 different parades. First was the historic Delano district's Christmas parade and then the Bikes For Tots parade. We rode in the Dealno parade with about 15 others from our club. It was pretty cold and windy but still a fun time.
The Bikes For Tots parade was first delayed and then canceled but we still attended the after party to celebrate the accomplishments of the organization which will be giving over 170 new bikes to area kids at Christmas.
To reassemble the Christmas Cruiser for our clubs upcoming parades and Christmas Lights Cruise. This year I added presents to the rack I made last year.
Today Nova and I along with our bicycle club attended the Partridge Pedal party in the small town of Partridge Kansas (pop 250). One of the events is riding in the parade which goes the length of the town's dirt road main street.
We drove for three days to get to Portland, Oregon to attend a bicycle event on Saturday where they preach about driving less. Aside from the guilt of the large carbon foot print we made to get there and them not serving our preferred beer, it was an awesome time! The TDF is a ballyhoo of bicycles and beer put on by the New Belgium brewery raising money for local bicycle organizations in the cities they are held. Not anti-car but pro-bike. This was our third Tour De Fat in just as many states.
I was surprised that there was not more people at the event with Portland being the bicycle city it is. I believe the TDF's we attended in Ft Collins and Tempe both had a larger turnout. The 6 mile parade ride through downtown Portland was great with the Portland Police blocking traffic the entire route.
Today, for the 3rd year, I rode with the Coasters Bicycle Club in the Delano District's St Patrick's Day Parade.
